Where Collaboration Sparks Innovation
Welcome to This Week’s Edition of The Community Bulletin!
We’re thrilled to introduce an exciting new direction for The Community Bulletin as we focus on driving collaboration, proposing visionary ideas, and drawing inspiration from unexpected places. This week, we’ll celebrate the groundbreaking Circular Plastics Microfactory, a shining example of what happens when innovation meets partnership. Next, we’ll propose a bold extension of that concept for Phoenix—a facility that combines cutting-edge recycling, 3D printing, and an engaging rage room experience to revolutionize waste management.
And finally, in our fan-favorite Meat the Poultry segment, we’ll take life lessons from Bob Marley, a chicken whose relaxed and dependable nature reminds us that calm consistency can turn ambitious goals into reality.
Buckle up—this is not just a newsletter; it’s a call to action to think bigger, connect deeper, and create something extraordinary. Let’s get started!
Spotlight: New Partnership In Phoenix
In February 2024, a groundbreaking partnership was established between Arizona State University (ASU), the City of Phoenix, Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona, and Hustle PHX to launch a pioneering Circular Plastics Microfactory. This innovative facility is designed to recycle plastic waste into new products, significantly reducing landfill contributions and fostering local economic growth.
Key Highlights of the Partnership:
• Innovative Recycling Approach: The microfactory processes polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) plastics collected from Goodwill donations. These plastics are transformed into pellets and then manufactured into new products such as skateboards, furniture, and plastic lumber.
• Significant Environmental Impact: The facility is projected to divert up to 550 tons of plastic from landfills annually, contributing substantially to waste reduction efforts in the Phoenix area.
• Economic and Social Benefits: By creating jobs and promoting entrepreneurship, the microfactory supports local economic development. Hustle PHX plays a crucial role in this aspect by providing unique support methods to help get the project up and running.
• Scalable and Replicable Model: The microfactory serves as a model that can be replicated in other communities, aiming to inspire similar initiatives nationwide and globally.
This partnership exemplifies a successful collaboration between educational institutions, local government, non-profit organizations, and community groups, setting a precedent for innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
Proposed Partnership For The Future:
Revolutionizing Recycling in Phoenix with Waste Management, Protolabs, and a Breakthrough Rage Room
Building on the success of the Circular Plastics Microfactory, imagine a next-generation facility in Phoenix that not only processes vast amounts of recyclable materials but also combines innovation, education, and entertainment. This vision brings together Waste Management Recycling, Protolabs’ cutting-edge 3D printing technology, and a Breakthrough Smash Room to create a dynamic ecosystem centered on sustainability and engagement.
The Concept - A Full Circle Facility
Waste Processing Hub
Waste Management would handle large-scale recycling efforts, ensuring proper sorting and preparation of materials for reuse. This backbone would support an efficient system for repurposing waste. (Eventually to be integrated with haul away companies to increase bandwidth)
3D Printing Innovation
Protolabs would leverage their advanced 3D printing technology to inexpensively convert recycled materials into high-quality products. From furniture to prototypes, the possibilities are endless for transforming waste into valuable items.
Rage Room for Initial Processing and Community Engagement
• A rage room at the front of the facility would serve as both a fun, stress-relieving attraction and an innovative way to break down materials into smaller, manageable pieces.
• The rage room would also draw attention to the facility, creating an entry point for visitors to learn about the recycling process, while offsetting some of the intital and backend costs of operating the facility.
Community and Economic Impact:
• Education and Awareness: By hosting workshops and tours, the facility could educate visitors about recycling, sustainable practices, and the transformative potential of 3D printing.
• Job Creation: The multi-faceted facility would create jobs in recycling, manufacturing, and community engagement.
• Circular Economy Leadership: Phoenix could position itself as a global leader in innovative recycling solutions and circular economy practices.
This partnership aligns with Phoenix’s sustainability goals while fostering creativity, collaboration, and innovation. It’s not just about recycling; it’s about reimagining how we approach waste and turn challenges into opportunities.

Meat the Poultry: Business Lessons from Bob Marley

This week, we’re highlighting the serene and dependable Bob Marley. Known for his relaxed demeanor and steady approach to life, Bob Marley’s consistency is something we can all admire and aspire to emulate.
Whether he’s basking in the shade or calmly leading the flock, Bob Marley exudes an effortless calmness that seems to say, “Everything’s going to be alright.” His steady presence is a reminder that reliability and a cool head can anchor even the busiest, most chaotic moments in life.
This outlook perfectly reflects the spirit of successful partnerships, like the recently launched Circular Plastics Microfactory in Phoenix, which brings together diverse organizations to achieve an ambitious shared goal. Similarly, in our vision for a future collaboration between Waste Management, Protolabs, and a rage room facility, Bob Marley’s qualities of calm and consistency could guide us all to work together with focus and purpose, turning innovative ideas into tangible successes.
As you navigate your week, remember to approach challenges with the same calmness and dependability that Bob Marley brings to the flock. Great achievements often come not from rushing but from taking each step with steady, intentional ease.
